What a cool 25 minutes of birding !
I always thought the flood plain should have a Snipe in it , a late evening trudge round the mashy areas didnt produce the hoped for Snipe , but I did manage to flush a JACK SNIPE ! (YT - 52) almost as I had given up and was heading back to the car ! A Male Kestrel was only the 2nd sighting this year , very little else on the plain , in high spirits , i headed round to Lodge Lake to see if any Ducks had decided to land .... They hadn't ! a lone Great Crested Grebe was the only thing that wasn't Canada , Mallard , Moorhen , Swan or Coot shaped !
A WATER RAIL (YT - 53) squealed as i walked past the reedbed ..... Which was nice ;-)
No sound of Cettis yet .....
