Cornwall and Scillies 2020 - Day 1 - Saturday 3rd October

A new blog has dawned ...

its 2020 and October 3rd

I SHOULD be in Shetland today ticking Lancey and Tennesee Warbler ...

I am not, I am writing this at Longstone Lodge having seen 13 species on Scilly since I arrived at 18:50 (do not ask)

 Positivity flows ...

I picked up Mark at midnight and a thoroughly delightful six hours later we are at Marazion Beach

29 Med Gulls later ( 25 Adults, 2 2nd and 2 1st Winters) we head round to Marazion Marsh and Long Rock Pool

5 Little Grebes and a Teal on the latter and 15 Dunlin on the beach at the former.

We then checked out Jubilee pool , 59 Turnstone, 2 Sanderlig and 13 Dunlin were on the rocks, but no Purps.

There was a Seal that was n a bad way and was in the process of being rescued.

Sausage and Egg sandwich was delicious.

Mark was being dropped off at the Heliport at 10:20 so we had a short opportunity to go to Prussia Cove.

Great choice

In the 20 minutes we were there we managed the following

1 Grey Wagtail

1 Swallow

1 Goldcrest

1 Firscrest

1 YELLOW BROWED WARBLER

1 Common Redstart

2 Chiffchaff

7 Blackcap

That was the highlight of the day ...

St Leven

2 Chiffchaff

11 Blackcap

1 Jay

3 Golden Plover over

Then it was onto Penbarth and an amazing valley that i had never birded

a PIED FLYCATCHER was seen on arrival (sadly only briefly)

2 Chiffchaff

4 Long Tailed Tits

1 Coal Tit

1 Grey Wagtail

Then it was off to the Scillies, or rather it wasnt ... what it was, was delays and hold ups for nearly 1.5 hours

We finally arrived on St Marys after being threatened by a Tresco divert at 18:50

Meet up with Mark at Longstone ( he has had a great day) and off to Old Town Inn for Beers and Burgers.

More tomorrow
