Scillies 2020 - Day 3 - Monday 5th October

 Hope is waning - 5th October 2020

Not a 6:30 start ... a Leisurely departure at 08:30 saw us checking out Longstones again

Grey Plover flying over and 2 Lesser Redpolls was a good indicator of stuff on the move and that def proved to be the case.

Highlights of a 9 mile walk around the islands was

Pied Flycatcher and YBW finds in Holy Vale

16 Chiffchaff (compared to 1 yesterday)

YBW at Higher Moors

5 Whinchat (my best Scilly total ever in a day)

Red Backed Shrike distantly from Maypole ( its about 40 yds as the RBS flies from our Lodges but on the wrong side of a hedge !)

Jack Snipe asleep on Porthellick Pool

Peregreine, Merlin , Sparrowhawk (2) and Kestrel make it the best raptor day on Scilly too ! One of the Sparrowhawks was new in and hunting Greenshank (!) on Old Town Beach.

9 Common Crossbill were seen to fly into a tree at Carn Friars and then not again !

6 Meadow Pipits in off at Old Town Chuchyard this evening in Drizzle was pretty exciting as well as the two juv House Martins that appeared from nowhere at the Churchyard !!

A much warmer and less windy day, but the only new rarity (sic) in was the AGP that Spider found over Telegraph yday finally located on Tresco

The best bit about today - Friends

Obviously great to spend the day with Mark and then meet Dave randomly and Russ for dinner, but its the old mates i saw as well !

Adam Bassett , Matty and Bryony Slymaker, Geoff and TJ Barter, Andy, Martin and Paul, Martin Scott and Paul Nobbs

Lets hope the next big one is just around the corner ...
